Practice Note: Recording Format Change

by Nick Long |

Session Law 2019-117 goes into effect on October 1, 2019, and requires any instrument to be recorded in the Register of Deeds have a margin of at least one-half inch.  [N.C. Gen. Stat. §161-14(b)(2)]  This will increase the margin from a quarter-inch to a half-inch and will allow the Register to reject any instrument which violates the new margin (or charge a non-conforming document fee of $25.00).  Check your forms and watch for signatures, initials or interlineations which violate the new margin requirement.
