Patrick Brown receives IAPP Privacy Law Specialization

Lawyers Mutual is pleased to announce that Patrick Brown, Director of Information Security, earned his Privacy Law Specialist designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

IAPP is the world’s largest and most comprehensive global information privacy community. The IAPP is accredited by the American Bar Association to certify lawyers in the specialty area of U.S. Privacy Law making Privacy Law the 15th specialty ever to be accredited by the ABA. The certification is the first of its kind offered by the IAPP; and Patrick is amongst the 40 attorneys nationwide that have received the designation in its inaugural year.

This is Patrick’s second special designation from the IAAP, as he received the Fellow of Information Privacy designation in September.

“There is an increasing importance for legal teams to be well versed on the rapidly evolving area of privacy law,” said J. Trevor Hughes, IAPP President and CEO. “With this designation, Patrick demonstrates his qualification to remain at the forefront of this legal field and join other leaders in a key intersection of policy, law and technology.”

Patrick is licensed in North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the US Patent & Trademark Office. He received his J.D. from Campbell University School of Law and a B.S. in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill.  Additionally, he is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for US private sector (CIPP/US) and a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM). Patrick serves on several local and state bar association committees, including the North Carolina Bar Association’s Privacy and Data Security Committee. He is also a member of the IAPP.
