Lawyers Mutual Names Two New Board Members

Angela McIlveen of the McIlveen Family Law Firm and Ellen Wortman of Marshall, Williams & Gorham, LLP have been named to the Lawyers Mutual Board. Their terms will begin on May 10, 2019.

Board members Ken McAllister and O. Richard Wright, Jr. will be stepping down.

Ken McAllister joined the Lawyers Mutual Board in 2003 and was named chair in 2012. He is a former U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina and General Counsel and Senior Executive Vice President for Wachovia Bank. Ken practices with the High Point firm McAllister, Aldridge & Kreinbrink, PLLC, in the areas of business and corporate law, business and civil litigation, personal injury, and white-collar criminal law.

O. Richard Wright, Jr. has been a member of the Lawyers Mutual Board of Directors since 1991. A former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, Richard is the managing partner of Wright, Worley, Moss & Ekster, PLLC in Tabor City. He focuses his practice on the areas of real estate, social security and disability law, and trusts and estates. Richard graduated from the University of North Carolina and the University of North Carolina School of Law and has served as President of the UNC Law Alumni Association. An active participant in his community, Richard has served as Chair of the John Motley Morehead Foundation Selection Committee for Columbus County and as President of the Southeastern Community College Foundation. He is considered to be the resident Board expert on the history of the Cape Fear region of North Carolina, having published two books regarding the family history of the area.

Angela McIlveen is the CEO/Partner Attorney of the McIlveen Family Law Firm. She is a regular contributor on WBTV, WBT Radio, and Fox Radio. Her recent awards include Super Lawyers – Rising Star, AVVO Client Choice Award, Leader in the Law, Top 40 under 40, and Top 10 Family Law Attorneys under 40. She was voted “GLM Marketer of the Year” by the attorneys attending the Great Legal Marketing Conference in 2014. While Angela McIlveen spends much of time managing the law practice, she still loves to try a case. Her practice includes custody, support, property division, divorce, and alienation. Ellen Wortman is a partner at Marshall, Williams & Gorham, LLP. Ellen’s practice focuses on the advocacy and trial of a broad range of complex civil matters. She has tried several cases to verdict in North Carolina State Courts and regularly handles cases in North Carolina Federal Courts and appeals before the North Carolina Appellate Courts. Ellen also regularly represents and defends community associations by providing legal services to developers, homeowner, condominium and boat owner associations. She prepares and evaluates governing documents, reviews contracts, and provides legal advice on issues arising within planned communities.

Her civic honors include serving as Co-Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division Membership Committee, 2003 – 2005, member of the Board of Directors of the New Hanover County Bar Association, 2008-2011, member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Women In The Profession Committee, 2012-2014, and member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Insurance Law Council 2014, 2016-2018.

Ellen was named one of North Carolina’s 2011 and 2012 Rising Stars in Business Litigation, was recognized by Best Lawyer’s in America for personal injury-defense litigation in 2015 and 2016.

Both Angela and Ellen previously served on our Charlotte and Eastern Carolina Community Boards.
