Lawyers Mutual is pleased to announce that the North Carolina Association for Women Attorneys (NCAWA) has named Lawyers Mutual Claims Counsel Laura Loyek as President-Elect. The NCAWA made the announcement at the Annual Conference during their Annual Meeting of Membership, which was held on the afternoon of October 11th, in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Laura joined Lawyers Mutual as claims counsel in 2009.  Her focus areas include real estate, business litigation, estates and trusts, and bankruptcy.  Prior to joining Lawyers Mutual, she practiced with the law firms of Smith Moore Leatherwood and K&L Gates.  Laura received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.S. degree from Wake Forest University. She is also an active member of the Real Property Section of the NCBA, the Wake County Bar Association, and Wake Women Attorneys.

Laura has been an active member of NCAWA since 2013.

“From the first time I attended a NCAWA conference, I felt like I belonged in this organization,” says Laura, who served as Vice President since February 2019.

She previously served on the Board of Wake Women Attorneys (At Large/CLE Member) in 2014.

“Women from across the state who practice in different fields of law and are at different stages of their careers can come together in the NCAWA to improve the profession, to have open and honest conversations about the issues impacting our lives and careers, and most importantly, to support and encourage each other,” Laura said of the organization.

Laura will begin her new role on January 1, 2020.
