ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I believe we will emerge even more focused on you and your needs. We also believe that we are more than just an insurance company. We are a partner with you and the legal community.

It is unfathomable that just over a year ago the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Within what seemed like a few short moments, the world shut down. Some things have not changed much since I wrote my last report a year ago. However, so many more things have – such as a distorted sense of time (for me at least), dramatic shifts in the labor force, how and where we do our jobs, the seemingly never-ending challenges faced by students and children (let alone the parents), and a much greater appreciation for time spent with families and friends.

During the pandemic, one of the most significant realizations for me has been the significance of community. During challenging and uncertain times, community is critical. While community has multiple definitions, the aspects that resonate most with me are fellowship, shared values, and responsibility. These aspects are personified through countless outpourings of charity, selflessness, and empathy and through the actions of healthcare providers, cashiers, cooks, couriers, healthcare providers, janitors, mail carriers, maintenance workers, police officers and truck drivers, to name a few.

Lest I fail to mention, through the actions of the North Carolina attorneys (the legal community).

In addition to all the good you already do; I am amazed at how much more you have done in the face of the pandemic. You have created free guides on COVID resources, organized pro bono initiatives, partnered with organizations to respond to the underserved, contributed money and time to clients, charities, and people in need, helped businesses keep their doors open and helped people and businesses navigate through a rapidly changing legal and regulatory environments.

And those are just the things I have heard about. To put it simply, you have given back to and supported the communities in which you live and work. Your actions have personified “community” and made life changing differences in countless people.

And that is what community is all about.

For all that you do, we thank you. It is an honor to be associated with and serve you and the North Carolina legal community.
