L.P. Hornthal, Jr.

Mr. Hornthal joined the Board of Directors of Lawyers Mutual in 1988 following his service as President of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys.  Mr. Hornthal primarily handles litigation matters, including general civil, business, and personal injury litigation, with the firm of Hornthal, Riley, Ellis, & Maland in Elizabeth City.  He has served the attorneys of North Carolina as President of the North Carolina Bar Association, as a  member of the North Carolina State Bar Disciplinary Hearings Commission and as a current member of the Judicial Standards Commission.  Mr. Hornthal has been honored as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and is a certified Superior Court mediator.  His practice has led him to participation in the Association of Insurance Attorneys and the International Association of Insurance Counsel.  Mr. Hornthal currently serves as a member of the Ecclesiastical Council and Commission on Ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina.
