James B. Maxwell

A past President of both the North Carolina Bar Association and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, as well as a Past Chair of Legal Aid of North Carolina,  Mr. Maxwell joined the Lawyers Mutual Board in 2006.  Having graduated from Randolph-Macon College and Duke University School of Law, he practices in Durham with Maxwell, Freeman & Bowman in the areas of medical negligence, personal injury, wrongful death, and professional liability.  A noted trial attorney, Mr. Maxwell has served on the American Board of Trial Advocates and is a Fellow with the American College of Trial Attorneys.  He also has been recognized as one of North Carolina's Super Lawyers and Legal Elite as well as, having been listed as one of America's Best Lawyers in Civil Litigation and Medical Negligence.  A member of the Duke Law School Board of Visitors, Mr. Maxwell has received distinguished recognition from that law school for his service to the legal profession and to his community.
